Brendan Borek loved to surf. He spent many hours on the beach with his friends waiting for the incoming high tides-which brought about the best surfing conditions. So it was a natural for his friends to wish him “high tides” during his struggle with cancer.
In 2015 we established the Brendan Borek Endowed Fund at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The endowed fund provides services to Atlantic and Cape May County pediatric cancer patients and their families. These “access to care” services include but are not limited to Food, Travel, Hotel and other services during the child’s illness. This endowed fund guarantees access to care to present and future generations of ill children.

For many years the Avalon/Stone Harbor Kindergarten class has collected and saved their pennies for Brendan’s Fund. They presented Lydia Borek with a check for $103.66.
Lydia showed the children a picture of Brendan when he was a kindergarten student at the school and another when he was on the New Vision Surf Team. She told them of the importance of their gift and how this will help other children.
Kudos to Mrs. Dean for teaching the children the value of money and encouraging their giving to others.
Thank you Mrs. Dean and Mrs. Jones.
Kevin Kane Development Director of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia accepting a check from Jim Miller. Funds were donated by members & friends of Lodge #1054. Their donation of $1000 has been added to the Brendan Borek Endowed Fund at CHOP.
Every year Jim holds a St. Patty’s Day fund raiser in memory of his daughter Rosemarie Miller. Our thanks to Jim for honoring his daughter’s memory by remembering others.
